Terrestrial SHF broadcasting - Chijo SHF broadcasting

Broadcasting carried out by terrestrial stations using radio waves in the SHF (short for super high frequency) band (frequency 3-30 GHz, wavelength 10-1 cm). SHF broadcasting includes satellite broadcasting from artificial satellites and terrestrial SHF broadcasting from terrestrial stations. For terrestrial SHF broadcasting, a total of 18 television channels, from channel 63 to channel 80, in the range of 12.092-12.2 GHz were allocated by a Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications ordinance in 1977. This broadcasting is mainly carried out as a countermeasure against television reception interference in cities, by receiving good television signals on the rooftops of buildings, converting them to SHF radio waves, and retransmitting them toward houses with poor reception in the shadows of buildings.

SHF(super high frequencyの略)帯の電波(周波数3～30GHz，波長10～1cm)を用いて，地上局によって行う放送。SHF放送には，人工衛星からの衛星放送と地上局からの地上SHF放送がある。地上SHF放送については1977年，郵政省令によって12.092～12.2GHzの範囲で第63チャンネルから第80チャンネルまでの合計18のテレビチャンネルが割り当てられている。この放送はおもに都市におけるテレビ受信障害対策として行われるもので，ビルの屋上などで良好なテレビ電波を受信して，これをSHF電波に変換し，ビル陰の受信障害家屋に向けて再送信するものである。
