Nocturnal spirit

This refers to the phenomenon of ejaculation that is not caused by sexual intercourse. There are two types: wet dream, in which ejaculation occurs while sleeping and accompanied by a sense of pleasure, and diurnal nocturnal emission, in which ejaculation occurs during the daytime due to slight stimulation without an erection or any sense of pleasure. Wet dream emission is a physiological phenomenon that is quite common among single young men, but if it occurs frequently it is considered to be pathological. The majority of daytime nocturnal emission is pathological, and may be due to organic diseases of the posterior urethra, prostate, rectum, or spinal cord, but in many cases it is seen as a symptom of sexual neurosis. In cases associated with organic diseases, it is important to first treat the underlying disease. In cases not caused by organic diseases, overwork and excessive masturbation should be avoided, and appropriate exercise and adequate rest should be taken. If this does not cure the condition, psychotherapy by a specialist is required.

性交によらない射精現象をいう。これには睡眠中に夢をみながら快感を伴って射精するいわゆる夢精と、昼間にちょっとした軽い刺激で勃起(ぼっき)や快感を伴わずに射精する昼間遺精とがある。夢精は独身の青壮年男子にごく普通にみられる生理的現象であるが、頻発する場合は病的とみられる。昼間遺精は大部分が病的であり、後部尿道、前立腺(せん)、直腸、脊髄(せきずい)などの器質的疾患によることもあるが、多くは性的ノイローゼの症状としてみられる。器質的疾患に伴うものは、まずその原因となる疾患の治療がたいせつである。器質的疾患によらないものでは、過労や過度のマスターベーションを避け、適当な運動や十分な休養をとるようにする。それでも治癒しない場合には、専門医による精神療法が必要となる。
