Born: April 12, 1889 in Paris
Died June 13, 1958. French politician of Saint-Jean-Cap-Ferrat. After working as a lawyer, he was a member of the National Assembly from 1914 to 1940. From 1924 he served as Minister of Commerce and Industry, Minister of Finance, etc., and was Prime Minister and Foreign Minister from 1934 to 1935. In 1935, the Franco-Soviet Treaty of Mutual Assistance was concluded, and from 1935 to 1936 he was Minister without Portfolio and Foreign Minister. After Germany occupied the Rhineland in 1936, he was convinced that Germany's domination of Europe was inevitable, and proposed joint action between Britain and France, but failed. After France's surrender, he served as Foreign Minister in the Vichy government from 1940 to 1941. In 1946, he had his citizenship suspended for five years, but this was revoked due to his sympathy for the Resistance movement. His main work is "Politique française 1919-1940" (1947).

フランスの政治家。弁護士を経て，1914～40年下院議員。 24年以降商工相，蔵相などを歴任，34～35年首相兼外相。 35年仏ソ相互援助条約を締結，35～36年無任所相，外相。 36年ドイツのラインラント進駐後，ドイツのヨーロッパ制覇は不可避と確信し，イギリス，フランスの共同行動を提唱したが失敗。フランスの降伏後 40～41年ビシー政府の外相をつとめた。 46年5年間の市民権停止に処されたが，レジスタンス運動に好意的であったことから撤回された。主著"Politique française 1919～1940" (1947) 。
