Thioether
The official name is sulfide. It refers to a compound R-S-R' in which a sulfur atom replaces the oxygen atom of an ether. Methyl ethyl sulfide (methyl ethyl thioether) CH 3 SC 2 H 5 is one example. It has a distinctive odor of sulfur compounds. When oxidized, it becomes sulfoxide R-SO-R' or sulfone R-SO 2 -R'.
