A circuit that delays the output signal by a certain amount of time compared to the input signal. Filter circuits (circuits that pass only currents of a specific frequency band) made of inductance (coils) and capacitance (capacitors) also have this property, but the term generally refers to circuits made for that purpose. Some circuits use special cables to achieve a large delay time, or use the propagation of ultrasound through mercury, glass, or metal, and some use semiconductors. They are used in computer memory circuits, synchroscopes, etc.

出力信号を入力信号よりもある時間だけ遅らせるようにした回路。インダクタンス (コイル) と，キャパシタンス (コンデンサ) で構成されたフィルタ回路 (特定周波数帯の電流だけを通過させる回路) もこの性質をもつが，普通はその目的のためにつくられた回路をいう。大きな遅延時間を得るための特殊なケーブルや水銀，ガラス，金属中の超音波の伝播を利用したもの，また半導体を用いたものもある。コンピュータの記憶回路，シンクロスコープなどに用いられている。
