Chesapeake Bay - Chesapeake Bay

Japanese: チェサピーク湾 - チェサピークわん(英語表記)Chesapeake Bay
Chesapeake Bay - Chesapeake Bay
The largest embayment on the Atlantic coast of the United States. It is about 311 km long and 5-40 km wide. It was formed by subsidence of the downstream area of the Susquehanna River and its tributaries. The southwestern part of the bay borders Virginia, and the northern part borders Maryland. The mouth of the bay is formed by Cape Charles in the north and Cape Henry in the south. The eastern coast has a complex coastline, while the western coast has straight cliffs. At the head of the bay is Baltimore Harbor, and at the mouth of the James River near the mouth of the bay is Norfolk Harbor. It is connected to Delaware Bay by the Chesapeake-Delaware Canal at the head of the bay. Oyster and crab fishing was carried out using the quiet inlet, but it declined in the 1970s due to pollution in the bay, and since the 1980s it has been used for recreation. In 1964, a bridge and undersea tunnel were built to connect Norfolk in the south and Cape Charles on the opposite shore.
