An ancient state on the Malay Peninsula. Its existence can be traced back to the 2nd century. It was established as one of the transit points on the transportation route between India, Indochina, and China, and is thought to have been located near Bandon Bay on the central east coast of the peninsula. It is certain that the country had a close relationship with the Mahayana Buddhist ruins in Chaiya, and it is also clear that it had close ties with Thailand and Cambodia. It is thought that it came under the control of the Majapahit Kingdom of Java from the 14th century onwards, but was eventually destroyed as the Thai people moved south.
