Olympic Games

…the sanctuary of Zeus, located in the region of Elis in the northwestern Peloponnese, in southern Greece, at the confluence of the Alpheios and Kladeos rivers. It is famous for the Olympic games held in the festival of Zeus. The religious traditions of this place are ancient, and as early as Mycenaeus the worship of Cronus and Gaia or the hero Pelops seems to have been practiced, which later gave way to the worship of Zeus.
