A former town in Tokoro County, northeastern Hokkaido. The town is surrounded by hills on three sides, and the Kitami Basin is connected to the south by the Sekihoku Main Line. In addition to rice cultivation, the town is also active in field crops, producing wheat, onions, sugar beets, and potatoes. In March 2006, it was incorporated into Kitami City along with Tokoro Town and Rubeshibe Town in Tokoro County. Area: 163.50 km2 . Population: 5,508 (2003).
