A box-shaped kiln with an arched ceiling attached to a tank made of firebricks. It is a typical kiln for continuously melting large amounts of glass raw materials used for plate glass, bottle glass, glass fiber, etc. Heating is done from the side or rear with heavy oil or gas burners. The kiln consists of a melting section, a fining section, and a working section. The melting section melts the raw materials that continuously enter through the raw material inlet at 1400-1600°C. The molten glass raw materials undergo a sufficient vitrification reaction in the fining section, removing bubbles and turning into homogeneous glass.

耐火煉瓦で築かれた槽(タンク)にアーチ状の天井がついている箱型の窯。板ガラス，瓶ガラス，ガラス繊維などに用いられるガラス原料を多量に連続して溶融するための代表的な窯である。加熱は側面あるいは後部から，重油あるいはガスバーナーで行われる。窯の構成は溶融部，清澄部，作業部から成る。溶融部は原料投入口から連続して入ってくる原料を1400～1600℃で溶融する。溶融したガラス原料は清澄部でガラス化反応を十分行い，泡をとり，均質なガラスとなる。
