[died]2009.2.18. London, UK. Sudanese author. He wrote Arabic prose with a strong charm, intertwining contrasting rhythms, and depicted Africa where traditional and modern life intersect. He studied in Khartoum, Sudan, and London, UK, and was active in radio broadcasting and served as drama director for BBC Arabic for many years. He was born in a rural area where small farmers and traditional religious people lived, and in the world of his novels he tried to harmonize Africans who had returned from studying abroad with the traditions of the past. His novel Mawsim al-hijrah ila al-shamal (1966), also known as a prose poem, tackles the conflicts of modern Africa, and his collection of short stories 'Urs al-Zayn (1967), with a well-balanced rhythm, expresses the warmth, deep emotion, humor, and sadness of Sudan's traditional Arab society.
