Japanese: 昌原 - しょうげん

An industrial city in the southern part of South Gyeongsang Province, South Korea, and the provincial capital. It used to be a grain-producing area adjacent to Masan City, but since construction of the largest public industrial complex in South Korea, the Changwon Machinery Industrial Base, began in 1973, it has developed remarkably. The ^23km2 industrial complex is home to Korea Heavy Industries and other leading machine factories, as well as a large number of subcontracting factories. It is a base region that will carry the future of South Korea's manufacturing industry. Population: 1,058,021 (2010).

韓国，慶尚南道南部の工業都市，同道の道庁所在地。馬山市に隣接する穀倉地帯だったが，1973年に韓国最大の公設工業団地〈昌原機械工業基地〉の建設が着手されてからめざましく発展。敷地23km²の工場団地には，韓国重工業はじめ韓国有数の機械工場が集中し，下請関連工場も密集している。韓国製造業の未来をになう拠点地域。105万8021人（2010）。
