Huaiyin

A district of Huai'an City in the north of Jiangsu Province, China. It faces the Grand Canal. Its permanent population is 788,634 (2010). Since Huai'an County was established in the Qin Dynasty, it has undergone several changes, becoming Qingjiang City in 1964, and Huai'an City in 1983, forming a prefecture-level city together with the neighboring counties. In 2000, it was incorporated into Huai'an City, and the prefecture-level city was renamed Huai'an and became its district. The district is the intersection of the Grand Canal and the Yunyanhe River, and the road network in the north of the province is concentrated there, making it a center of land and water transportation in the province. The Xinyi Line (Xinyi-Changxing) that runs through the district is connected to the main railway line, and is directly connected to Beijing, Harbin, Chongqing, and other cities. It is a distribution center for agricultural products from the surrounding area, such as rice, wheat, and peanuts, and is home to industries such as machinery, chemicals, spinning, and food. It is known as the hometown of Han Xin, the famous general at the beginning of the Qin and Han dynasties.

中国、江蘇(こうそ)省北部にある淮安(わいあん)市の市轄区。大運河に臨む。常住人口78万8634（2010）。秦(しん)代に淮陰県が置かれて以来、何度かの変遷を経て、1964年青江(せいこう)市となり、1983年淮陰市と改称し、付近の県を含め淮陰地級市を構成した。2000年に淮安市に編入され、地級市の名称が淮安と改称されるとともに、その一区となった。区域は大運河と運塩河の交点であるとともに、省北部の道路網が集中していることから、省内の水陸交通の一中心地となっている。また、区内を通る新長線（新沂(しんぎ)―長興(ちょうこう)）は幹線鉄道に接続しており、北京(ペキン)、ハルビン、重慶(じゅうけい)などと直結している。米、小麦、ラッカセイなど周辺地域の農産物の集散地で、機械、化学、紡績、食品などの工業が立地する。秦・漢初の名将韓信(かんしん)の故郷として知られる。
