Senshoji Temple

A temple in Minori, Fukui City. It is called Nakanosan and is the head temple of the Shinshu Sanmonto sect. It was founded when the founder of the sect, Nyodo (or Nyodo), came to Hokuriku on a pilgrimage to the remains of the founder Shinran, and in 1290 (Shoo 3), he expanded the Kurumaya dojo in Omachi, Asuwa County, and named it Senshu-ji. Nyodo, along with Dosho and Nyokaku, who were of the upper axe, claimed that "I am the Buddha," and were called "those who do not worship," and preached the secret teachings. These three schools of Buddhism were called Nakano Monto, Yokogoshi Monto (Shojoji Temple), and Sabae Monto (Joshoji Temple), respectively, and these three schools flourished in Echizen (Fukui Prefecture). Among them, the fifth head priest, Joitsu, who inherited the lineage of Nyodo, built a new temple in Nakano, Asuwa County, and called it Senshoji Temple, and the eighteenth head priest, Chonyo, moved it to its current location, where it remains to this day. During the Edo period, it became the head priest of Myohoin Temple and belonged to the Tendai sect, and at one point moved to the Otani sect of Shinshu Buddhism, but in 1878 (Meiji 11), it became independent, calling itself the Sanmonto sect, and became its head temple.

福井市みのりにある寺。中野山(なかのさん)と号し、真宗三門徒派の本山。派祖如導(にょどう)（または如道）が宗祖親鸞(しんらん)の遺跡を巡拝して北陸に至り、1290年（正応3）足羽(あすわ)郡大町(おおまち)の車屋道場を拡大して専修寺と称したに始まる。如導は上足の道性(どうしょう)、如覚(にょがく)らとともに「自己是(こ)れ仏なり」と主張して「おがまずの衆」とよばれ、秘事法門(ひじぼうもん)を唱えた。これらの法脈はそれぞれ中野門徒、横越(よこごし)門徒（証誠寺(しょうじょうじ)）、鯖江(さばえ)門徒（誠照寺(じょうしょうじ)）とよばれ、これら三門徒は越前(えちぜん)（福井県）に栄えた。このうち如導の系統を継ぐ第5世浄一(じょういつ)は、足羽郡中野に新たに一寺を建立して専照寺と称し、その後18世澄如(ちょうにょ)が現在地に移して、今日に至る。江戸時代には妙法院門跡(もんぜき)の院家となって天台宗に属し、一時は真宗大谷派にも移ったが、1878年（明治11）に独立して三門徒派を称し、その本山となった。
