The Statue of Liberty is located on Liberty Island in New York Harbor. Its official name is "Liberty Enlightening the World." In his right hand he holds a torch and in his left hand he holds a tablet symbolizing the American Declaration of Independence. It was donated to commemorate the 100th anniversary of American independence by the French people who supported the country's independence, and was unveiled in 1886. It was designed by sculptor FA Bartholdi. The statue is 46 meters (152 feet) tall, and 93 meters (305 feet) tall including the pedestal. It is a symbol of American democracy, and a symbol of a new world for immigrants who have been coming from all over the world since the end of the 19th century. Since 1965, it has become a national park and immigration museum along with Ellis Island.
