Born January 30, 1862 in Breslau (now Wrocław, Poland) [Died] December 22, 1950. New York. American conductor and composer born in Germany. Studied under H. Bülow in Germany. In 1871, he came to America with his father, a violinist and conductor. After serving as conductor at the New York Oratorio Society and the Metropolitan Opera, he became the principal conductor of the New York Philharmonic Orchestra in 1903. In his later years, he also worked to popularize music through the NBC broadcasting network. His works include four operas.
