Deimos (English spelling)

A moon of Mars. Also called Deimos. It was discovered in 1877 by Hall of the Washington Naval Observatory in the United States, along with another moon, Phobos. It is located further out than Phobos, and orbits the planet with a radius of about 23,500 km, taking about 30 hours and 18 minutes to complete. Observations by the Mars Rover revealed that it has an irregular elliptical shape with a major axis of about 16 km, and that there are many craters on its surface.

火星の衛星。ダイモスともいう。1877年アメリカ、ワシントン海軍天文台のホールにより、もう一つの衛星フォボスとともに発見された。フォボスより外側に位置しており、半径約2万3500キロメートルの軌道を、30時間18分ほどで公転している。火星探査機による観測で、長径が約16キロメートルの不規則な楕円(だえん)形をしており、表面には多くのクレーターがあることがわかった。
