The lyrics are written by Matos Rodrigues himself, as well as by Pascual Contursi and Enrique Maroni, and in the mid-1920s, the lyrics by Contursi and Maroni came to be sung by many singers. The composition of the piece is 15 bars in the first part, 16 bars in the second part, and 16 bars in the third part. The main melody in the first part is characterized by a large staccato leap, but the lyrics of this part by Contursi and Maroni are attached to the more gentle secondary melody. ...
