Lake Tahoe (English spelling)

Japanese: タホー[湖]（英語表記）Lake Tahoe

A lake on the border between California and Nevada in the United States. It is a fault basin in the Sierra Nevada Mountains, with an elevation of 1,899m, an area of 494 ^km2 , and a maximum depth of 495m. The lake's name means "lake" in Washoe Indian, and it was discovered in 1844 by explorer J.C. Fremont. It is a typical tourist resort in the American West, attracting many tourists especially in the summer, but in the winter the surrounding ski resorts become a mecca for winter sports. Casinos line the Nevada side of the state border, forming an entertainment center.
