Spring Songs - Haru no Kyoku
The title of a koto piece. Kokin-gumi composed by Yoshizawa Kengyo. The tegoto and kaite were added by Matsusaka Harue (1854-1920). Yoshizawa composed this piece with the aim of creating a new koto kumiuta to revive kumiuta. The lyrics are six waka poems selected from the spring section of the Kokin Wakashu, arranged in the order they are used. The transitional scenery from the first nightingale in early spring to the older nightingale in late spring is musically expressed. Matsusaka's addition of the tegoto made this piece even more famous. [Kubota Toshiko]
