1073?-1125 Georgian king. Reigned 1089-1125. Promoted independence and centralization of the Georgian Kingdom. Known as Aghmashenebeli (the Builder). In 1121, he defeated the Muslim coalition at the Battle of Didgor, and the following year captured Tbilisi and moved the capital there. He established a standing army made up of Turkish nomadic Kipchak cavalry and European mercenaries, and made use of city nobles and courtiers to curb the power of the great princes.
