Davit IV
1073?-1125
Georgian king. Reigned 1089-1125. Promoted independence and centralization of the Georgian Kingdom. Known as Aghmashenebeli (the Builder). In 1121, he defeated the Muslim coalition at the Battle of Didgor, and the following year captured Tbilisi and moved the capital there. He established a standing army made up of Turkish nomadic Kipchak cavalry and European mercenaries, and made use of city nobles and courtiers to curb the power of the great princes. He promoted construction projects throughout the country and also paid close attention to the development of the arts and sciences.

グルジア王。在位1089‐1125年。グルジア王国の独立と中央集権化の推進者。建設者(アグマシェネベリAghmashenebeli)と呼ばれる。1121年ディドゴルの戦でムスリム連合軍を破り,翌年トビリシを奪ってここに首都を移した。トルコ系の遊牧民であるキプチャク人騎兵やヨーロッパ人傭兵からなる常備軍を創設し,また都市貴顕や廷臣を重用して,大諸侯の勢力を抑えた。国内各地で建築事業を盛んにするとともに,学芸の発達にも意を用いた。
