Discrimination learning

...In some cases, animals learn to press a lever using a device called the Skinner box, which gives food when the animal presses a lever, and in other cases, maze learning, where food is given when the animal follows the correct path through a maze. Discrimination learning involves presenting two or more stimuli simultaneously, and teaching the animal to discriminate between stimuli by selecting the correct one and giving a reward when the animal responds. Problem box learning was invented by Thorndike, and involves placing an animal in a box with a door that has a latch, and rigging the device so that the animal must release the latch to get out.
