A basin located in the southwest of Miyazaki Prefecture, on the northern foot of Mount Kirishima. It is also called the Masaki Basin. It is a caldera basin about 200 meters above sea level formed by ancient activity of the Kirishima volcano, and is located in the Sendai River basin. The northern and western parts of the basin are bounded by the Yatake Plateau and the caldera walls that continue from it, the southern part by Mount Kirishima, and the eastern part by hills that border the Kobayashi Basin. The alluvial plains of the Sendai River have developed within the basin, and it is one of the leading rice-producing areas in the prefecture. Administratively, it is part of the city of Ebino, and consists of the three districts of Kakuto, Kyomachi (Masaki), and Iino.
