Year of death: 5 April 816 (5 May 816) Year of birth: Tenpyo 15 (743) A Sanron sect monk from the early Heian period. He was also known as "Yochu." His secular surname was Akishino. He entered China in 777, lived at Saimyoji Temple in Chang'an, and returned to Japan in 805. He was entrusted with Bonshakuji Temple in Omi Province (Shiga Prefecture), and the following year, he was given two monks and became a priest, proposing that the food and drink at the ritual ceremonies should be rich and rich. When Emperor Saga visited Karasaki, Shiga County (Karasaki, Otsu City) in 815, he was welcomed by Gomyō and others, and presented him with tea that he had made at Bonshakuji Temple. He was the Daisōzu (Great Priest) at the time.
