A Sanron sect monk from the early Heian period. He was also known as "Yochu." His secular surname was Akishino. He entered China in 777, lived at Saimyoji Temple in Chang'an, and returned to Japan in 805. He was entrusted with Bonshakuji Temple in Omi Province (Shiga Prefecture), and the following year, he was given two monks and became a priest, proposing that the food and drink at the ritual ceremonies should be rich and rich. When Emperor Saga visited Karasaki, Shiga County (Karasaki, Otsu City) in 815, he was welcomed by Gomyō and others, and presented him with tea that he had made at Bonshakuji Temple. He was the Daisōzu (Great Priest) at the time. 平安前期の三論宗の僧。「ようちゅう」ともいう。俗姓は秋篠氏。宝亀8(777)年に入唐,長安西明寺に住み,延暦24(805)年に帰国した。近江国(滋賀県)の梵釈寺を委ねられ,翌年,得度者ふたりを与えられ,律師となり,斎会の飲食を豊濃にするよう提言した。弘仁6(815)年に嵯峨天皇が滋賀郡韓埼(大津市唐崎)に行幸した際,護命らと迎え,梵釈寺で茶を煎じて献上した。時に大僧都。空海と親交があり,弟子に実敏がいる。<著作>『五仏頂法訣』<参考文献>堀池春峰『南都仏教史の研究』下(諸寺篇)
