...While the other three Vedas were created in conjunction with the rituals of orthodox Brahmanism, this Vedas is essentially magical and originated from folk beliefs. This Vedas, which contains incantations to ward off evil and bring good fortune, was originally called the Atharva-Angiras, and indicates that it was created based on the incantations of the Atharvan tribe, who were in charge of inviting good fortune, and the Aṅgiras, who were in charge of curses. The Atharva-Beda, which is different in origin from the other three Vedas, was not recognized as an orthodox Vedas at first, but gradually improved in status and acquired the status of the fourth Vedas as a sacred text belonging to the Brahman priests who oversaw all rituals.
