Takeuchi Highway - Takenouchi Highway

Japanese: 竹内街道 - たけのうちかいどう

This road crosses southern Yamato and southern Kawachi roughly from east to west, and reaches Sakai in Senshu. Its name comes from the fact that it crosses the border between Yamato and Kawachi at Takeuchi Pass (the border between Katsuragi City, Nara Prefecture and Taishi Town, Osaka Prefecture) on the south side of Mt. Nijo. During the Edo period, it passed through Asuka, Komagatani, Furuichi, Nonoue, Kashiyama, Noto, Kanaoka, and other areas of Kawachi from Yokooji, an ancient east-west road in Yamato, via Takeuchi Pass, before reaching Sakai. This road is thought to be the successor to the Tajihimichi, which appears in the article on the Jinshin War in the Nihon Shoki.

南大和から南河内をほぼ東西に横断し，泉州堺に至る道で，街道名は大和・河内の国境を二上(にじょう)山南側の竹内峠（奈良県葛城市と大阪府太子町の境）で越えることによる。江戸時代には，大和の東西の古道である横大路から竹内峠を経て河内の飛鳥(あすか)・駒ヶ谷・古市・野々上(ののうえ)・樫山・野遠(のとお)・金岡などを通り堺に至る。当街道は《日本書紀》の壬申の乱の記事にみえる丹比道(たじひみち)の後身と考えられている。
