Clove oil

Japanese: 丁子油 - ちょうじゆ

Also known as clove oil or clove fragrans. An essential oil obtained by steam distillation of dried clove buds (called cloves or clove fragrans). The main component is eugenol (85-90%), with other components including terpenes, vanillin, and esters. It has a fragrant fragrance and also has bactericidal and anesthetic properties. It is widely used in cosmetics, perfumes, food flavorings, medicines, etc., and is also a raw material for the synthesis of vanillin, etc.

丁香油，クローブ油とも。チョウジのつぼみを乾燥したもの（丁子，丁香という）を水蒸気蒸留して得られる精油。主成分はオイゲノール（85〜90％），他にテルペン類，バニリン，エステル類などを含む。芳香をもち，殺菌作用や麻酔作用もある。化粧品，香水，食品香料，医薬品などに広く用いられ，またバニリンなどの合成原料となる。
