Hitting the ball - Tagyuraku

Japanese: 打球楽 - たぎゅうらく

The title of a Japanese gagaku piece. It belongs to the Togaku and Taishiki styles. It can also be written as "Dakyuraku." It includes a dance, performed by four people. The piece imitates the aristocrats playing dakyu, a game from the Heian period, and is characterized by a dance technique called tamakakute. The dancers wear ryotou costumes, crowns, and hold a curved stick called a gitcho, while the second lady also holds a wooden ball. They enter the stage to the accompaniment of the Taishiki style and bongen, and dance the main piece. After the dance, they exit to the accompaniment of the kamiji style.

日本の雅楽の曲名。唐楽，太食 (たいしき) 調に属する。「打毬楽」とも書く。舞があり，4人で舞う。平安時代の遊戯である打毬 (だきゅう) に貴族たちが打ち興じるさまを模した曲で，玉掻手 (たまかくて) という舞の手を特徴とする。舞人は，裲襠 (りょうとう) 装束を着け，冠をかぶり，球杖 (ぎっちょう) という先端の曲った棒を持ち，二臈はほかに木製の球を持って，太食調調子，品玄 (ぼんげん) を伴奏に登場し，当曲 (中心となる曲) を舞う。舞い終って上調子 (かんぢょう) を伴奏に退場する。
