One of the major ethnic groups in the Philippines. They live in the provinces of Rizal, Laguna, Bulacan, and Bataan on the island of Luzon. Tagalog, like other Philippine languages, is an Austronesian language, and it is estimated that more than 10 million people speak it as their mother tongue. Due to the 300 years of Spanish rule since the late 16th century, more than 80% of the population is Catholic. In rural areas, the traditional lifestyle is maintained, and most people live in small stilt houses made of wood or nipa palm, and they mainly farm rice, but their main cash crops are sugarcane and coconuts. They played the most important role in the revolution against colonial rule by white people (Spanish and Americans) that took place from the 19th century to the early 20th century. They have produced many of the major heroes of the Philippine people and leaders of the government after independence.
