Shigetsune Tagaya
Year of death: 9th November 1618 (25th December 1618)
Year of birth: Eiroku 1 (1558)
A military commander during the Sengoku and Azuchi-Momoyama periods. Lord of Shimotsuma Castle in Hitachi Province (Shimotsuma City, Ibaraki Prefecture). Son of Masatsune. His original name was Takatsune. He was appointed Shimousa no Kami and Shuri-no-taifu, and called himself Michiame. At the end of the Sengoku period, he formed an alliance with the Yuki and Satake clans, expanding his territory to western Hitachi and northeastern Shimousa, and oppressing the Okami clan of Hitachi Ushiku. He had a keen eye for political affairs, and with his skillful political skills, he built the Tagaya clan to its peak, but under the Toyotomi government, the affiliation with the Yuki and Satake clans was denied, and he retired to Shimotsuma Castle, placing his biological son Mitsutsune with the Yuki clan and his adopted heir Nobuie (younger brother of Satake Yoshinobu) with the Satake clan. In 1602, when Nobuie followed his older brother Yoshinobu to Dewa, he became a ronin and wandered around various places, dying in Hikone, Omi. <References> "Sekijo Town History" General History Vol. 1
