…Of particular importance is the commentary on the Taiho Code, Koki, which is estimated to have been written around 738 (Tenpyo 10). Although the author is unknown, it allows us to learn a part of the text of the Taiho Code. The following commentaries on the Yoro Code, entitled Shakuyun, were all written between the end of the 8th century and the beginning of the 9th century. In order of their creation, Shakuyun is a semi-official commentary, although its author is unknown; the Seki, entitled Akuyun, is considered to be the private record of a certain Ado; the Ana, entitled Ana, is considered to be the private record of an Anahonuchihito; and the Sanki, entitled Sanyun, is considered to be the private record of a Sanuki no Naganao. The above are the main private records of a ryo that Naomoto directly quoted from his side, but if indirect quotations are included, the number of private records of a ryo that he quoted is even greater, including those of a Tang scholar. …

…However, of the above, only the Koki can be considered a study of the Ritsuryo Code, and the others were merely official works to determine the interpretation of the provisions. The study of the Ritsuryo Code flourished from the end of the 8th century to the beginning of the 9th century, when many private commentaries such as the Ryōshaku, Sekiki, and Anaki, which are cited in the Ritsuryo Shuge, were created. The Ritsuryo Gige was an official commentary selected in this climate. …
