A town in Aso County in northeastern Kumamoto Prefecture. It occupies the eastern part of Nango Valley in the Aso Caldera and the surrounding mountainous areas. In addition to cultivating rice, livestock, and melons and apples, the town is also known for cultivating highland vegetables such as radishes, cabbages, and Chinese cabbage.
