Pierre Monatte

1881‐1960
A French labor movement leader. He quit his job as a school teacher to become a publishing worker, and participated in anarchism and labor union movements. In 1904, he joined the executive board of the General Confederation of Labor (CGT). His extensive academic knowledge made him the Confederation's leading theorist, and he contributed to the formation of syndicalist theory. In 1909, after Griffuel and others resigned from the Confederation due to internal conflicts within the CGT, he published the magazine "La Vie en Produtos" and attempted to reconstruct the theory of left-wing syndicalism. When World War I broke out, he was one of the first to express his anti-war stance, and after being court-martialed and transferred to the army, he led the Zimmerwald movement from the front.

フランスの労働運動指導者。学校教員を辞任して出版労働者となり，アナーキズム運動，労働組合運動に参画，1904年から労働総同盟(CGT)執行部に加わり，豊かな学識によって総同盟きっての理論家となり，サンディカリスムの理論形成に寄与した。09年，総同盟の内紛に際してグリフュールらが総辞職したのち，《労働者生活》誌を刊行，サンディカリスム左派の理論的再構築を試みた。第1次大戦の勃発に際しては，いち早く反戦の立場を表明，軍法会議により軍隊に編入されたのちは戦線からツィンマーワルト運動を指導した。
