Marginal plateau - Enpenkaidai

...a fairly large, nearly flat seafloor elevation bounded on one or more sides by a slope (see figure 1 in the entry on submarine topography). A broad plateau that appears on the edge of a continental slope is called a marginal plateau, and is bounded on one side by a steep slope. The Blake Plateau off the coast of Florida (depth 700-1000 m) is a plateau deeper than the nearby continental shelf, and is thought to be the result of ocean currents preventing sedimentation, while the Campbell Plateau south of New Zealand (depth 500-1000 m) is thought to be the result of subsidence due to faulting.
