A marine fish of the family Lutjanidae in the order Passeriformes. Previously, the genus Fusarium was divided into one family, but it is now classified in the family Lutjanidae as there is not enough difference to call it a family. It is tropical and widely distributed from the western Pacific to the Indian Ocean. It is found in southern Japan, but is more common in the Izu Islands, Ogasawara, and Okinawa, where it is affectionately known as Gurukun and designated as the prefecture fish. It is the main target of the drive net. Although Fusarium is the name of Tokyo and Odawara, it has a body shape reminiscent of the Muroaji, as can be seen from the names Hanamuro (Kii, Nagasaki) and Akamuro (Kochi, Kii).
