Bowling Convention - Bowling Convention
The first Treaty of Amity and Commerce was concluded in April 1855 in Bangkok with the British plenipotentiary, Lord Bowring (1792-1872). It consisted of a 12-article Treaty of Amity, a Trade Chart, and a tax schedule, and stipulated the principles of free trade, a flat 3% tariff, conditions for foreigners to reside and purchase land, and the opening of consulates. This treaty, and the successive similar treaties concluded between Thailand and developed capitalist countries, allowed Thailand to become incorporated into the world trading system based on the modern international legal order.
