Yoshimasa Kiso

Japanese:
Yoshimasa Kiso
Year of death: Bunroku 4.3.17 (1595.4.26)
Year of birth: Tenbun 9 (1540)
A military commander in the Azuchi-Momoyama period. Son of Yoshiyasu, lord of Kiso in Shinano Province (Nagano Prefecture). Iyo no Kami and Saemon no Kami. In 1555, he submitted to Takeda Shingen in Kai (Yamanashi Prefecture) and took Shingen's daughter as his wife. Under the Takeda clan, he expanded his domain and took control of the entire Kiso district. When Takeda's decline began to show, he quickly confided in Oda Nobunaga. In February 1582, Takeda Katsuyori's army learned of this and attacked Kiso, but with reinforcements from Oda Nobutada, he defeated them at Torii Pass. In March of the same year, Nobunaga granted him additional control of Azumi and Chikuma districts, but he was unable to actually control them as Nobunaga died in June, and he ended up fighting with Ogasawara Sadayoshi over ownership of the two districts. After the Siege of Odawara in the same year, he was transferred to the Kanto region by Tokugawa Ieyasu, and was given 10,000 koku of land in Kaijo County, Shimousa, and established his residence in Amido (Asahi City, Chiba Prefecture). He is considered a traitor in Yamanashi Prefecture and a brave lord in Kiso, but he is a typical example of a small lord who survived the Sengoku period. There is also a theory that he died on the 13th. <References> "Kiso Kokin Enkakushi" "Kiso Fukushimachoshi"
