Matsuo Takagaki
1890-1940 An American literature scholar from the Taisho to early Showa periods.
Born December 13, 1890. Studied at the University of Chicago. Became a professor at his alma mater, Rikkyo University, in 1922. Contributed to English Youth, English Studies, and other publications, and worked to introduce American literature after World War I. Died September 13, 1940. Age 51. Born in Kanagawa Prefecture. Published works include "American Literature" and a critical biography of "Dreiser."

明治23年12月13日生まれ。シカゴ大にまなぶ。大正11年母校立大の教授。「英語青年」「英語研究」などに寄稿し,第一次大戦後のアメリカ文学の紹介につとめた。昭和15年9月13日死去。51歳。神奈川県出身。著作に「アメリカ文学」,評伝に「ドライサー」など。
