Father of Takaoka Hiramaro. He was originally called Sazanamino Kawachi, but later took the clan name Takaoka Muraji. In 721, he served Prince Obito (later Emperor Shomu), and was praised for his excellent writing skills and worthy of being a teacher. In 722, he was appointed head of the University.
