Japanese: 光線過敏症 - こうせんかびんしょう（英語表記）Photosensitivity Disorder

A general term for diseases in which exposure to sunlight causes an immune response that results in redness, inflammation, and an itchy rash on the skin. It is also known as "sun allergy." Symptoms appear only on exposed skin, even when the amount of sunlight is low enough that it would not normally cause problems. There are various causes for the onset of this condition, including allergies to ultraviolet rays or medicines, congenital metabolic disorders, genetic mutations, and possession of specific genes, and in some cases the causes remain unknown. Treatment methods vary depending on the cause, but in all cases it is important to avoid direct sunlight as much as possible.

日光を浴びることで皮膚に赤みや炎症、かゆみを伴う発疹などの免疫反応が生じる疾患の総称。｢日光アレルギー｣とも呼ばれる。通常なら問題が生じない程度の日光量でも、露出部の皮膚にのみ症状が現れる。発症の原因は紫外線や薬剤などに対するアレルギー、先天的な代謝異常、遺伝子の変異、特定遺伝子の保有など様々で、原因が解明されていないものもある。治療法は原因によって異なるが、いずれにおいても直射日光を可能な限り避けることが重要とされる。
