A collection of songs. 1 volume. A manuscript of rice planting songs from the Chugoku Mountains. There are many such manuscripts in this region, but this one was discovered in Shinjo, Oasa-cho, Yamagata-gun, Hiroshima Prefecture, and was included in the 5th volume of the Japanese Song Collection in 1928, gradually gaining recognition as one of Japan's leading rice planting song collections. The lyrics show a strong influence from medieval short songs, and it is generally believed that the song was created at the end of the Muromachi period. However, it was copied in the Edo period, and the Rice Planting Story itself is said to have been a copy made around the Bunka and Bunsei periods. Each song is composed of about five lines, centered around the dialogue between the lead song and the young girl, and this book arranges over 130 such songs into 12 parts, four each for morning, afternoon, and evening, making it the most skillful arrangement of songs to be sung on a single day of rice planting.
