A town in Inukami County in central-eastern Shiga Prefecture. Most of the town is an alluvial fan on the left bank of the Inukami River, with extensive rice paddies. It has been open land since ancient times, with many ancient tombs, and was the base of the Kyogoku clan at the end of the Kamakura period. There is Saimyo-ji Temple, also known as Ikenedera, and the Omi Railway runs through the west of the town. Area: 13.63 km2 . Population: 7,500 (2010). 滋賀県中東部,犬上(いぬかみ)郡の町。大部分は犬上川左岸の扇状地で水田が広い。古くから開けた地で古墳が多く,鎌倉末期は京極氏の本拠地であった。池寺と呼ばれる西明(さいみょう)寺があり,西部に近江(おうみ)鉄道が通じる。13.63km2。7500人(2010)。
