Thanh Hoa (English spelling)

The capital of Thanh Hoa Province in northern Vietnam. It is located about 130 km south of the capital Hanoi, on the right bank of the lowermost part of the Ma River that flows into Bac Bo (Tonkin Bay). It is a distribution center for rice and livestock produced in the fertile agricultural areas around it. In recent years, industries using nearby deposits of chromium and phosphorus as raw materials have flourished, and sawmills and thermal power plants have been established, forming a new industrial district. It is also known as a producer of traditional water jars. During the Vietnam War, it was frequently bombed by the United States Air Force and suffered heavy damage. It is a key transportation point, and the Thong Nhat Railway and National Highway 1 that connect Hanoi to Ho Chi Minh City in the south pass through it.

ベトナム北部，タインホア省の省都。首都ハノイの南約 130km，バクボ (トンキン) 湾に注ぐマ川の最下流部右岸に位置する。周辺の肥沃な農業地帯に産する米，家畜などの集散地。近年，付近に埋蔵されるクロム，リンなどを原料とする工業が盛んとなり，製材工場，火力発電所なども立地し，新しい工業地区が形成されつつある。伝統的な水がめの産地としても知られる。ベトナム戦争中，アメリカ合衆国空軍の爆撃をしばしば受け，大きな損害をこうむった。交通の要地で，ハノイと南部のホーチミン市を結ぶトンニャット鉄道および国道1号線が通る。
