...This category includes all invertebrates and the vertebrates fish, amphibians, and reptiles. They are commonly called cold-blooded animals because they feel cold to the touch, but in some cases their body temperature may be higher than ours, so cold-blooded is not an accurate description. Cold-blooded animals generally generate less heat through metabolism, and do not have mechanisms for retaining heat, such as feathers or hair, so heat generated within the body is quickly expelled from the body.
