Taimei [town] - Taimei

Japanese: 岱明[町] - たいめい

A former town in Tamana County in the northwest of Kumamoto Prefecture. It is located in the Kikuchi Plain facing the Ariake Sea, and is served by the Kagoshima Main Line. In addition to producing rice and vegetables, mulberries, tobacco, and mandarin oranges are cultivated on the plateau, and seaweed is cultivated along the coast. There is a large cycad (a natural monument) in Onoshita. In October 2005, it was incorporated into Tamana City along with Tensui Town and Yokoshima Town in Tamana County. 22.81 ^km2 . Population: 14,970 (2003).
