Doshi [village] - Doshi

Japanese: 道志[村] - どうし

A village in Minamitsuru County in southeastern Yamanashi Prefecture. Population 2,153 (1995). Located in the Doshi River basin between the Tanzawa Mountains and the Doshi Mountains, it borders Kanagawa Prefecture to the southeast. In the past, sericulture, konjac cultivation, and charcoal burning were popular, but in recent years watercress cultivation has become popular. Taking advantage of the village's favorable natural conditions, the village aims to become a tourist destination, and in 1967 a summer student village with guesthouses was opened. The Doshi River is a famous fishing spot for sweetfish and yamame salmon, and the village also has a fishing center. The village is also rich in folk events, with lion dancing being passed down at the shrine in the village and the Higashi Fuji Shichiri Taiko drumming being revived.

山梨県南東部，南都留（みなみつる）郡の村。人口2153(1995)。丹沢山地と道志山地の間の道志川流域を占め，南東は神奈川県に接する。かつては養蚕，コンニャク栽培，炭焼きが盛んであったが，近年はクレソン栽培が盛んになった。また恵まれた自然条件を生かして観光立村をめざし，1967年には民宿による夏季学生村が開設された。道志川はアユ，ヤマメなどの釣りの名所で，村営のフィッシングセンターもある。民俗行事も豊かで，村内の神社には獅子舞が伝わり，東富士七里太鼓も復活した。
