Heat-resistant fibre

Japanese: 耐熱性繊維 - たいねつせいせんい（英語表記）heat-resistant fibre

A fiber that does not deteriorate much even at high temperatures (200-300°C). It is distinguished from non-flammable fibers such as glass fiber and carbon-based fiber. Practical fibers include organic aromatic polyamide fibers (→aramid) and polybenzimidazole fibers. Representative examples are Nomex and Kevlar from DuPont in the United States, and others are commercialized by Chemstrand and Celanese in the United Kingdom, and Teijin in Japan has commercialized Conex. Due to its flame-retardant properties, Kevlar is used in electrical insulation materials, firefighting suits, flight suits, life jackets, parachutes, ironing boards, and fire curtains, as well as composite materials and tire cords.

高温 (200～300℃) でも比較的に性能劣化の少い繊維。ガラス繊維，炭素系繊維などの不燃性繊維とは区別している。実用されているものでは有機系統の芳香族ポリアミド系の繊維 (→アラミド ) と，ポリベンゾイミダゾール繊維がある。アメリカのデュポン社のノメックス，ケブラーが代表例で，その他ケミストランド社，イギリスのセラニーズ社が商品化，日本では帝人がコーネックスを商品化している。難燃特性から電気絶縁材料，消防服，飛行服，救命袋，パラシュート，アイロン台，防火カーテンのほか，ケブラーは複合材料，タイヤコードなどに用いられる。
