The story of a general who is a good love story

Japanese: 恋路ゆかしき大将物語 - こいじゆかしきだいしょうものがたり

A court-style tale written around the late Kamakura period. The four volumes of the Kaneko Takeo version and the one volume of the Katsuranomiya version, which are both surviving copies, combine to form a nearly complete work, but there are no other copies in existence. It is a love story between a man and a woman set in the imperial court, and imitates the Iwade Shinobu Monogatari in many ways, including its plot. While the first half is a glamorous tale of a successful love affair between three noblemen, the second half turns into a tragic love story about one nobleman, and it lacks some cohesion. 鎌倉後期ころ成立の王朝風物語。それぞれ残欠本である金子武雄蔵本4巻と桂宮本1巻とを合わせて一つの完本に近くなるが，この両本以外には世に伝本がない。宮廷を中心とした男女の恋物語で，構想その他《いはでしのぶ物語》をまねたところが多い。前半は3人の貴公子の華やかな得恋物語なのに対し，後半は1人の貴公子の悲恋物語に転じ，ややまとまりを欠く。文章は流麗である。【松尾聡】
