Shiro Ikegami

Japanese: 池上四郎 - いけのうえ しろう
Shiro Ikegami
1842-1877 A samurai and soldier from the end of the Edo period to the Meiji period.
Born in 1830. A samurai of the Satsuma Kagoshima Domain. He participated in the Boshin War. In 1871, he became an army major, but in 1873, he returned home following Saigo Takamori. In 1877, he joined Saigo's army in the Seinan War and led the attack on Kumamoto Castle. He was killed in battle on September 24th of the same year at Kagoshima Castle Hill. He was 36 years old. His name was Sadakata.

天保(てんぽう)13年生まれ。薩摩(さつま)鹿児島藩士。戊辰(ぼしん)戦争に参加。明治4年陸軍少佐となるが,6年西郷隆盛にしたがい帰郷。10年の西南戦争で西郷軍に加わり,熊本城攻撃を指揮。同年9月24日鹿児島城山で戦死。36歳。名は貞固。
