Born in 1830. A samurai of the Satsuma Kagoshima Domain. He participated in the Boshin War. In 1871, he became an army major, but in 1873, he returned home following Saigo Takamori. In 1877, he joined Saigo's army in the Seinan War and led the attack on Kumamoto Castle. He was killed in battle on September 24th of the same year at Kagoshima Castle Hill. He was 36 years old.
