A former town in Tome District, northern Miyagi Prefecture. Occupying the lowlands of the Hasama River basin, rice farming is thriving here. Livestock farming is also practiced. The Tohoku Main Line runs through the west, and the Kurihara Rural Railway Line branches off from Ishigoe Station. In April 2005, the town merged with Hasama Town, Tome Town, Towa Town, Nakata Town, Toyosato Town, Yoneyama Town, and Minamikata Town in Tome District, and Tsuyama Town in Motoyoshi District, to become a city, Tome City. 24.87 km2 . 6,223 people (2003). 宮城県北部，登米(とめ)郡の旧町。迫(はさま)川流域低地を占め，米作が盛ん。畜産も行う。西部を東北本線が通り，石越駅からくりはら田園鉄道線が分岐。2005年４月登米郡迫町，登米町，東和町，中田町，豊里町，米山町，南方町，本吉郡津山町と合併し市制，登米市となる。24.87km2。6223人（2003）。
